Edaravone-Loaded Sodium Alginate/Carboxymethyl Chitosan Composite Flim for the Healing of Chronic Wound

Abstract High levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the wound surface are one reasons why chronic wounds difficult to heal. Using free radical scavengers reduce ROS and duration toxic effects can accelerate healing wounds. In this study, a novel edaravone (Ed)-loaded sodium alginate (SA)/carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) antioxidant composite film was prepared, physicochemical properties biocompatibility were analyzed. The results indicated that SA/CMCS/Ed films hydrophilic, with excellent water absorption retention, also exhibited adequate mechanical properties. exploratory drug release investigation revealed increase SA content plays critical role Ed process by improving binding ability drug, resulting slow release. addition, cell experiments confirmed SA/CMCS 20% 30% not only had no cytotoxicity, but significantly promoted viability fibroblasts from oxidative stress injury induced hydrogen peroxide. These preliminary suggested Ed-loaded be further used for study dressings, which is expected provide new ways treatment diabetic foot ulcers, lower extremity venous ulcers arterial ulcers.
